Tips To Get Over Your Fear Of Learning To Dive
We know that you want to see the beautiful fish swim and get up close and personal with the dolphins in Hawaii, but let’s face it some of us are just scared of water. The thought of getting lost, out of air, sinking, the dark ocean, and many more wildly dangerous thoughts run in our heads and those thoughts tends to drive us away from learning how to dive. Read on for some great tips to getting over your fear of diving.
The first thing you need to do is to actually have that feeling, the inner calling, the desire to get over your fear. You simply can’t get over it if deep down in your mind you don’t want, but once you want to, and you’re willing to, then you’ve developed that gut, the braveness, the heart to get over it, and that’s in your mind. So a lot of self talks doing pros and cons of learning how to dive might make you have a stronger mind.
Once you have the heart to do it, you should find a partner to go learn this with you, but don’t run out and find a partner who is scared of water themselves, find someone you can trust and someone you feel safe with. Even better if that person is actually with a positive mind and can support you whenever you’re about to try out something or whenever to fail to do something
It is also important that you find an instructor who you can connect with, you wouldn’t want to be with an instructor who are pushy and always telling you that you ‘have’ to do it, this might make you feel pressured and scared. An instructor who you would feel safe with, after all you are scared, so his or her understanding of your fear would make you progress to over coming this and pull it through.
When you are learning to dive and you know that you have a fear of water, it is probably better if you and your friend take a private lesson with the instructor, the cost might be a little more expensive but you wouldn’t feel pressured by seeing other people passing it, doing it quickly, learning it fast, you would take your own time and doing it at your own pace. Remember not to rush yourself into this, do whatever it takes to actually lessen your fear, like going in the water slowly, always having your friend and instructor around.
If you have passed the pool test and you’re on your way to the open water test, then it’s recommended that you don’t jump from the back of the boat like all the others because you might feel shocked and scared, that would make the situation even worse. Just relax and talk to your instructor about your fear when you are at the open water, slowly take your time before you take that jump.
When you fail the first time, you should be patient, people fail all the time, and you are not the only one with the fear of water. You should definitely reward your self for actually trying to get over your fear, keep positive attitudes and do whatever you’re comfortable with. With a lot of practice and relaxation you will make it through and fear of water would be something that you don’t even remember.
